Hubbard Wedding- Adventurers Welcome

Hail and well met! If any of you brave souls be looking for a dangerous quest to test your mettle... you would probably fit right in here. After all, what do you get when you combine a Renaissance Fair, Pagan ceremony, Scottish traditions, and a Wedding? A collection of photos that are generally anything but run-of-the-mill. As promised, here are a few photos from Ian and Sara's "mythology" themed wedding. It was a lot of fun to shoot, and there are a lot of really interesting photos in the different galleries. If you are feeling impatient, you can jump straight to the full galleries on Smugmug here. I'll put a few of my favorite photos from the ceremony and the group and newlywed sessions here. (editor's note: a "few" turned out to be a lot. sorry about the super long post. my sympathies if you are on dial-up) A few photos from the reception will follow in a later post. You'll be sure to want to check those out, as a lot of folks didn't dress up for the ceremony, only to later show up to the reception in style.
Here we got the groom all decked out. I can't for the life of me remember his clan though....

♫ "Here comes the bride! ..... accompanied by her father who is giving her away, while still holding his glass of scotch." ♫ I loved it. It completely fit the feel of the day. Everybody was relaxed and ready to enjoy themselves.

And now the ceremonial knot-tying of the wrists.... presumably to make sure nobody gets cold feet and runs away? ;)

And the guests begin to trickle in to the reception... Every time I saw this guy on the left for the rest of the night, the only thing I could think of was "Mahwagge... Mahwagge is waht bwings us togehvah, today."

We didn't get a chance to do bridals for Sara, so we took a few minutes away between the ceremony and the reception to take a few photos of her and her husband.

Sara designed her own dress and had it custom-made. It's easily the most unique dress I've ever seen- gorgeous too!

Farmer Wedding- Newlyweds

Justin and Jeanine Farmer had a beautiful wedding day... the weather was just perfect (well, perfect enough considering it was January). I love it when couples ask me to be there all day, because it gives us the time to get a lot of variety in the photos. We started at the Bountiful temple after their sealing, they had a nice luncheon at a sushi place in Murray, and then we were able to skip on over to Wheeler farm for an hour or so before the reception. It's not often that we have a chance to shoot the wedding couple on the wedding day during the last hours of sunlight (my favorite time to shoot)- more often than not the schedule of the wedding day doesn't allow for it. So I was very pleased we were able to go to Wheeler Farm for the extended newlywed session. The location and the fact that they are "Farmers" did make me giggle a bit though. :D

Christenson Wedding, Part 1

I was looking forward to Lindsey and David's wedding for a couple of different reasons- it was at a new venue ("Highland Gardens" in, you guessed it, Highland Utah), they are a great-looking couple, and David is in the Navy and was planning to get married in his official Navy dress uniform.
As it turned out, the venue was gorgeous, with a beautiful lighting situation (LOTS of wonderful natural light), the couple was still good-looking, and I loved getting to shoot a ceremony with a military touch. :)
We ended up getting to take some really fun newlywed photos after the ceremony in different parts of the reception hall; Lindsey and David were wonderful to work with, and very natural in front of the camera. Before the ceremony I was able to get some fun "getting ready" photos as well.... which is one reason I love ceremony weddings as a photographer.

Boogaard Wedding

It has been a crazy last couple of weeks! We did the bridal fair at the Salt Palace early this month, and have had a ton of other work mixed in with all the other preparations for the fair. We ended up having a wedding on January 1st and January 2nd, and so I have just been swamped. I've got a ton of different posts I want to share, so expect a lot of updates in the near future. Now to the business at hand....

In December I shot Ashley and Derek's wedding at the Logan temple, and it was a balmy 3 degrees outside. I never cease to be amazed at how willing the bridal couple and the rest of the wedding party are to put up with the cold for the sake of good photos. While I definitely go all out with thermals, scarves, and gloves, I salute the brave souls who say "I bought this dress for the wedding, and I am going to show it off in these photos!" :D

Pratt Wedding

After some great engagements, bridals, and a really fun bride and groom shoot on the beach, I was definitely looking forward to shooting Kelsey and Alec's wedding day. They got married in the Redlands Temple in Orange County, California, and it was a beautiful afternoon. I love to travel, love photography, and when I get to combine the two it makes for a very happy time. It was fabulously warm (especially compared to the weather we left back in Utah), the flowers and the colors the wedding couple chose were gorgeous, and the photo session went off without a hitch.

Alexis and Alan's Newlyweds

Alexis and Alan's wedding was on a blustery day at the Bountiful Temple; it was beautiful, and bitterly cold! The site is gorgeous, and located way up on the top of a hill- we had some serious winds, and I felt so sorry for the bridal couple. Even Alan in his tux (which Thomas still approved of- chocolate brown and quite stylish) wasn't doing much better with the breeze than his beautiful bride.

Parry Luncheon

Right after the wedding Laura and Jacob had a lovely luncheon at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building at Temple Square. The cake was beautiful, Jacob sang Laura a song (in front of everyone no less!), and a good time was had by all. I loved the big windows letting in lots of natural light, and the entire event had a very relaxed atmosphere. The setting in the memorial building was wonderful; I had done bridal sessions there before (it's one of the best "indoor" photography locations in Salt Lake City), but this was my first wedding reception that had been held there. I look forward to shooting there again in the future!
