Here's a shoot I did for Christmas for my sister Chelsea and her family while we were up in Spokane. Their son Elijah is super adorable; I love getting a chance to shoot him! :)

Families
Springer Family
As the winter progresses, it becomes more and more of a routine to consciously plan and schedule winter family photo sessions with breaks interspersed to be able to escape the cold and warm up. Poor little Cali probably had the cutest little winter outfit I've seen yet this year; she was dressed for it, but we still made sure to take it easy with the cold weather. Part of the fun of shooting on location is that you never know exactly what will happen. It could be a clear sky, or snowing heavily. It could be 40 degrees or 4. It requires a lot of flexibility, but also affords the opportunity for some photographs you never would have planned otherwise. We got one photo in particular while warming up in this little yarn store in Gardner Village that we probably never would have taken if it hadn't been so cold. The uncertainty of the situation leads to enforced creativity and adaptation.

Conran Family
When we scheduled the session for Matt and Lori's family photos we made the unfortunate choice of what turned out to be probably the coldest day in November. It had been fairly warm for the preceding two weeks and BAM! an early Saturday morning shoot that was probably in the low single digits. Bad enough for adults, but the Conran's two adorable little boys were along for the ride and they were not exactly happy about the conditions. However, after multiple breaks for heated car time, bribes, bubbles (the boys LOVE bubbles), and eventually fleeing to a different location (read- INDOOR), we were left with some family group shots they were happy with and some pictures of the boys that Lori and I really liked.

Allie and Jon
'Tis the season for Christmas Card photos! Allie and Jon were definitely one of the most stylish "families" I have done photos for, and their two dogs were adorable in their little Christmas sweaters. We headed on up to Wheeler Farm, where there were still a bit of Fall colors to be found, and managed to leave with some photos I was particularly happy with. By now I was quite familiar with taking photos of dogs, and their two were wonderful to work with. (It helps when you can just physically tote them around though! Not so feasible with a boxer... :D )

Lamoreaux Family
This was one of the most fun family shoots I have ever done. Trisha and her kids were a delight to photograph, and we just joked around the entire time. It was so great to see a family so happy to be together. Family photos can sometimes be a little stressful between different family member schedules, wardrobe malfunctions, and kids just wanting to be kids and not pose for the camera. This time everyone was great! Trisha was pretty much just one of the kids, and they had fun teasing each other and trying to make each other laugh as they took their turn in front of the camera.
We did this shoot around Da Vinci doors in Lehi, and it was amazing that there were so many other photographers out that day. The secret must be out by now, as there were at least 6 or 7 other groups taking photos (on a weekday afternoon no less). I guess the holidays are coming, and 'tis the season for family portraits for Christmas cards.

Pearson Family
I've done several shoots now for the Pearson family, and Teagan is certainly getting bigger each time I see him. We got these pictures done in Provo by the river while there was still a lot of great fall colors, and I am so glad we did. Fall here in Utah is pretty much over, so now the only way I can get my fix of beautiful foliage is as I edit these past shoots. It was especially cool in this location as I saw that the ivy crawling up and over a building had changed colors- I had never seen ivy to do that.

Scadden Family
I've known the Scadden family for years; they used to live in Austin (my hometown) and they recently relocated up here to Utah. We met up at Wheeler Farm for the shoot; It was GORGEOUS, despite the late season (cursed short Utah fall colors time frame). It had been raining that day, so we were worried we might have to postpone- fortunately it cleared up soon after we started, and with the small exception of a short strong shower near the end we had pretty good weather.
I was amazed that a family shoot with SIX kids could go so smoothly. I was especially impressed with the youngest two! Chandler, known as "Chanman" to his family and friends, is only four years old but he had a ton of personality and could win any girls heart. Makenna, the next youngest, is seven going on seventeen, and is almost ready to go on the runway. Such a fun family!!

BreAnn and Jon
After seeing the photos I took for Shannon and Chris, BreAnn contacted me about doing an "engagement"/family session. BreAnn and Jon have their own boxer, a very energetic male named "Milo", and we managed to get a few shots of them as a family before banishing him to the car to wait out the rest of the session. Poor Milo was having a bit of trouble focusing on the camera, as there were about 5 times as many dogs at the park that day as I have seen at other times. With so many interesting distractions it was a fun challenge to make sure everyone was looking at the same time. :)
Recently it seems like I have had a lot of families request a photoshoot with their dogs. It has been a lot of fun to see the dynamic between the clients and their pets as we work together- they really do become a part of the family, and I have loved the variety it can provide to the pictures.

Osorio Family
A little under two weeks ago, I met up with the Osorio family in my new favorite park in Orem. The family was together for the first time in two years as their oldest son Jonathan had just returned from an LDS mission to Hawaii. It was great to see how happy they were to be together again, and I was glad to be able to take their first family photos in such a long time.
