Old Friends

We came to Las Vegas to shoot Alexandra & Tyrel's engagements (they will be saying "I do" today, congratulations you two), but also had the privilege of doing portraits for old friends.  Buzz and Cheri were lindy hoppers back in our glory days, and they have now settled in Las Vegas - with two kids full of personality!  They were kind of enough to let us stay with them that weekend and we are so grateful!

Now, here's the sappy story and a bit of insight into my past:  Thomas and I dated for about 2 years, with a couple hiccups along the way.  About a year in, Cheri and I had a heart-to-heart and she decided that I was in love.  But no!  I wasn't ready to admit that... well, at least for a couple more months.  When I look back at that time, though, I think she was right.  I should probably give her 10% credit that we eventually got married.  And I'm glad for the kick in the pants to start thinking more seriously.  After all, I not only got a husband, but I got a voice-controlled-light-stand.  Who could ask for more?  The truth is, as a person, and as a photographer, I'd be nothing without him.

Jonathan and Zak were so much fun and full of energy.  Reminds me of the craziness and rewarding moments I can I look forward to when I have my own.

Warner Family

The Warner family was a joy to shoot, as they were a group made up entirely of good-looking adults who were easy to give direction to, and babies who were absolutely adorable.  I seriously could have shot the older baby all day!  She was so photogenic and just unbearably CUTE that I was tempted to try and make a break for it with her!

Happiness and lots of light make for a good family portrait! You can see the entire Warner family gallery here.

Just look at this face.  My heart just melts looking at her expression....

Floppy hats, Picnic baskets, and Swedish stuff

Soooooooo... this was clearly not taken in November.  I was reviewing the photos from this year, and I realized one of my favorite family shoots ever didn't make it onto the blog.  So five months later, here it is.

On a side note- we decided to try something different and shot everything nearby one of my favorite stores ever- IKEA.  I love everything in Ikea, but beware...  the store is Dangerous.  With a capital D.  I plan to run in and grab a $5 thingamajigger, and, of course, I walk out with a pallet cart having spent $300.  I walk inside for a 10 minute errand, and before I realize it 3 hours have passed.  It's the Bermuda Triangle of retail.

I've been lucky enough to shoot Zoey several times now, and I think I can literally say that I have never come across a more naturally photogenic baby.  She is A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E. I hope one day to have a baby girl with eyes half as gorgeous as Zoey's.

Raps Family

I love repeat customers! It's so fun to watch a family change and to be there for different stages in their life. I shot the Raps family in California last year when I photographed Kelsey and Alec's wedding. They were such a fun family and we got along so well that I was delighted when Arlene Raps called me to let me know they were coming into town for Lauren's (Kelsey's older sister) graduation and they wanted to book a family portrait session.

Kelsey and Alec will be celebrating their one year anniversary soon, and are still just as in love today as they were on their wedding day.

The entire family was a blast to work with, but little Ava definitely stole the show.

It's really hard to beat taking photos in a big green park on a beautiful summer day.

It was good to see Jeff and Lauren again. Thomas and Jeff have been friends for years since they served LDS missions in Mexico City at the same time. That was originally how Jeff's sister-in-law Kelsey found me for her wedding photography. Hooray for referrals!

It was so cute how Ava had all these stock expressions. Jeff and Lauren had taught her so that they could say "Ok now Happy Smile," or "Now Excited Smile", or even "Now do a Shy Smile" and Ava would instantly pose and look right at the camera with the right expression. No bribes required!

She seemed to have gotten the catwalk down on her own though. She was fascinated by high heel shoes and kept stealing Aunt Kelsey's and Grandma's so that she could strut her stuff. Someone's going to end up being a model!

The one thing I hope for from my clients is PERSONALITY... in this shoot, I hit the jackpot. They were laughing and being playful from beginning to end. I loved it!

A recent shoot I did in my studio was a head shot session for Kelli, a candidate for Miss Utah. My head shot sessions are a little different than standard portrait sessions- they include 5 different photos, but I do a lot more on the editing above and beyond the standard portraits. Kelly needed a few different photos for the promotion of the pageant, including a few wearing a crown! (a first for me, i admit)
