I took photos of Zoey last year when she was just a month or two old, and I almost didn't recognize her! She has gotten so big.... but she is still one of the absolute most photogenic children that I have ever come across. She was a dream to shoot, and it was really hard to narrow down the photos we got from the session to just five or six favorites for this post.

A recent shoot I did in my studio was a head shot session for Kelli, a candidate for Miss Utah. My head shot sessions are a little different than standard portrait sessions- they include 5 different photos, but I do a lot more on the editing above and beyond the standard portraits. Kelly needed a few different photos for the promotion of the pageant, including a few wearing a crown! (a first for me, i admit)
Now here's a few photos from some past studio shoots.
Slevin's Baby Photos
We had planned to take these baby pictures outside, however due to Utah's crazy Fall weather (warm one day, freezing rain the next) we ended up doing the photoshoot inside at my studio. Slevin was a wonderfully cute subject, and had some really great smiles. It's interesting doing infant photography, however, in that you don't just let them play and document their natural poses and actions (my preferred method with small kids). As they aren't fully capable of moving themselves around, it is an exercise in creativity and flexibility in coming up with new ideas and poses that work for each baby. I love searching out new concepts with this area of photography though! It makes me excited to take pictures of my own kids someday.

Baby Zoey and Family
This baby is one of the most adorable infants I have ever come across. She is incredibly expressive, and was tons of fun to shoot. I first saw Zoey in Five Guys in Orem (love their burgers) while waiting for our order, and got to talking with her dad when I told him how cute she was. I mentioned I was a photographer, and I love taking pictures of kids, and he took my card. I was thrilled when I received an email several weeks later requesting a shoot. Zoey was just as cute as I remembered from the restaurant, and we got some wonderful photos of her and her family. Unfortunately, it was a colder day than we anticipated, and so Zoey kept sticking her hands in her mouth to warm them up. :)
I was especially pleased with this shoot, as I was able to use my latest find in the search for props- a tea cup from the lawn and garden section of Walmart.

Liz's Maternity Shoot
We got Liz's maternity shoot done up above Sundance right before all the really vivid Fall colors in Utah apparently decided to disappear. She brought her son Hunter along, and he was wonderful with helping out Mom by holding different changes of clothing. We managed to get some nice "almost-a-big-brother" pictures with Hunter as well.
I was especially exited to hear that Liz found me through Google just by searching "Utah Maternity Photography". My husband Thomas has been diligently making improvements to my website and my blog trying to make it more search engine friendly, and so it's great to see that it seems to be working. Plus, it's always wonderful when new clients contact me out of the blue and say "I found your work and I love it!"
I love how Liz's photos turned out, even though it makes me slightly sick that someone can be so close to giving birth and still look as incredibly thin and fit as she does. I mean, there's a baby in there!!! :)

Kristin's Maternity
Still working a few kinks out in the new studio. Kristin is having a boy almost any day now, and wanted some maternity photos with her husband Jaren. We had some fun thinking of different poses, and Kristin provided me with some new ideas.
Hartley Family
Meredith contacted me a few months ago to schedule a photoshoot of her family and later of her family reunion. I happily accepted, and was pleased when I saw Meredith posting on Facebook before the shoot about how excited she was for me to take their photographs.
I ended up meeting them in Salt Lake at Liberty Park along with my great friend Matt Cobabe who was assisting me that day. It was a beautiful day and we were able to take pictures in this amazing garden nearby before finishing up around the pond in the park. Best of all? This is a great looking family, and their kids are ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE. :D
As I was editing through this shoot my husband Thomas was sitting next to me helping me out and after a couple close ups of the kids he said to me, "Wow, these kids are freakishly cute". I laughed, but I completely agree. Some of the biggest eyes I've ever seen, and they were just tons of fun to shoot.
Matt let their little boy play for a few minutes with his camera, and he was utterly fascinated by all the buttons.
I loved that this was the way she seemed to smile; almost every time she would grin and kind of twist her tongue out at me...
