Brittany & Scott- Summer Wedding Reception at Springville Museum of Art

Brittany and Scott's wedding reception at the Springville Art Museum was beautiful, and full of gorgeous color and details.  There was nothing overdone or over the top; everything was wonderfully put together.

It almost never fails- every time you cut the cake, you've always got the peanut gallery supervising to make sure the job is done right.  .... And to taste that it was done right.  Right?

So, near the end of the reception we managed to sneak out for just a few minutes and take a few night shots outside on the grounds around the museum.  We had a beautiful clear night with an awesomely bright moon.

I've said it before, but if there are any brides-to-be here stalking the blog and making little notations of what to do and not to do- here's a HUGE one:

If at your reception you can include lots of lights all around different places, it will make your photos 1134% better, and your photographer 9999% happier.  Bistro lights, little twinkle lights (like we have in the background here below), lots of candles or lamps... it's doesn't really matter.  However, the addition of some nice muted lights in the background turns a good photo into a really stellar one.  It will make the difference of having a well lit (if your photographer knows what they are doing) person in front of a dark (or completely black) background, and a well lit person standing in front of a interesting background with depth and texture to it.  Light, or the lack thereof, is everything.

This next one might be my favorite.  There aren't too many people willing to just hang out in the center lane on a busy road getting their photo taken as cars go whizzing by, but something about this photo below just blows my mind.  Maybe it's the sheer attitude that these two have.  Such a cool couple!

And of course, as we were having fun taking a few awesome photos by ourselves, Brittany and Jordan's friends were having fun by themselves with Jordan's car. :D

Sneak Peek: Austin Texas LDS Wedding Photography

As I mentioned the other day, we were back in my hometown in Austin TX shooting a wedding over the weekend.  Here is a sneak peek of some of the photos from the formals shoot that we did on Thursday at the Zilker Botanical Gardens before the wedding, and some photos from the wedding day itself on Friday at the LDS Temple in San Antonio.  They had their reception on Saturday at the Vineyards at Chappell Lodge, so I had some time to quickly go through and get a few of my favorites from the two shoots for this slideshow.  We ran it for the wedding, and one of the coolest things about it (aside from the awesome photos, of course)?  The song is actually the bride singing!!!

It's a song she wrote for her (now)husband a year ago about their relationship.  You can actually buy the song on itunes- her name is Katherine Gee and the song's title is Sunshine and Rain. She is fabulously talented!  In fact, her entire family is unbelievable as well... the whole wedding process was like a big broadway musical, with spontaneous poems, musical performances, and some really awesome dancing.

I'll definitely be posting more pictures from the wedding later on in future posts, but I just had to share a couple now so y'all can see what I was up to.  I had so much fun, and was so honored to be a part of it.

Heidi & Steve: LDS Summer Wedding Reception

This final post for Heidi and Steve has some additional newlywed photos that we took outside of Sleepy Ridge before the wedding dinner and reception, some family and group photos we took upstairs in the Sunset Room, and some fun tradition pictures from the reception itself.  Heidi and Steve were both so great to work with, and I hope y'all have had fun seeing some of the different photos from their wedding this week.

The Garden Room is really pretty, especially in the summer, but if I had to pick my favorite spot at Sleepy Ridge it would definitely be the Sunset Room.  The wood floors, vaulted ceiling with the huge chandelier, and all the windows that let in just the right amount of light.... yep.  Definitely my favorite.

Cutting the cake and feeding it to each other is always a moment of truth.  No matter how many weddings I go to, I can never quite predict what will happen.  Will they feed it ever so nicely to their new spouse?  Will it be a cake-pocalypse with frosting and baked goods permanently mashed into the pores of the skin like some delicious lotion?  I never know.  I have seen some of the quietest, most laid back people I have ever met go to town when it comes to cake-smashin' time.  I think this is an example of one of the things I like best about weddings... they are always the same, and yet always different.  You do just about all the same things at 99% of the weddings that happen, but each and every one turns out differently.

I am so glad we decided to open up the french doors going into the Garden Room so we could see out into the patio for the dancing.  Getting to see the post-sunset blue sky and all the lights strung up over the patio really helped set the scene.

Heidi and Steve decided they wanted to make sure they were comfortable when they blasted out of their party and on to their honeymoon.

Heidi & Steve Reception Details

So sorry for being incommunicado!  We headed out to Austin for a wedding this weekend, and the blog was shamefully neglected.  But never fear!  New and exciting posts will be shared!  First up- a few favorites from the details gallery from Heidi and Steve's wedding at Sleepy Ridge.

Gotta love the porch outside the Garden Room during the blue hour!

Heidi & Steve Dinner

Heidi and Steve had a pre-reception dinner in the Garden Room at Sleepy Ridge.  The food was catered by Marvelous Catering, and it was fabulous!

It might be an odd thing to rave about, but one of the best things about the dinner?  The lemonade!!!  I have no idea what they put in there (probably a combination of sugar/more sugar/crack), but it was quite possibly some of the best lemonade I have ever had.

I loved all the florals they Heidi had picked out.  Beautifully bright colors, and in combinations that I thought worked really well together!

Heidi & Steve: Newlywed Photos at Timponogos Temple

Heidi and Steve had one of the most gorgeous days of the summer.  The landscaping at the LDS Timpanogos Temple was awesome and bursting with color, and we had oodles of sunshine to bring them all out.

I loved the collar on Heidi's wedding dress!  It worked perfectly with her short hair... so cute!

All right boys and girls, y'all know the secret to getting that awesome glow to people and to bringing out colors that blow out your corneas?  Back light!  Use it well, use it often.

We did most of the group photos at Sleepy Ridge, which I'll share in a later post, but this group photo was taken at the temple and really lets you get to know the wedding party in all their glory.

Kandis & Greg: Sleepy Ridge Soiree

Before Kandis and Greg's wedding reception started, we took some extra group shots on the grounds at the Sleepy Ridge Golf Course.  I loved the arches and landscaping they have just outside of the reception building.  You can really see why they call this the entrance to the "Garden Room"!

Greg has one of the best laughs I've ever seen.  He is always natural, and you can almost hear it, bubbling up out of the photo.  It's always great to work with grooms who are outwardly as happy as they are inwardly.

Bond.  James Bond.

Now these folks didn't mess around when it came to boogying down to the music.  I guess you can say they put the ...PARTY... in wedding party! ::insert courtesy laugh  here::

HEEEEEEEEY MACARENA!  Aiiiieee!

Thank you so much guys for letting me be a part of your wedding!  I had the best time, and you two were some of the best clients a girl could hope for.    Congratulations on finding each other!

Sleepy Ridge Wedding Reception Details

I love the Garden Room at the Sleepy Ridge Reception Center, it's got some amazing light and really gives an airy, elegant feel to a reception.  The details at Kandis and Greg's reception were beautiful and complemented the location perfectly.

Here are a couple favorites...
