Formals - Capitol Building

Mattie and Carston once again with bride and groom photos - part 2.   I love it when the couple decides to have both the bride and the groom at the bridals... groomals, formals... call it what you will!  It takes so much pressure off the schedule of the wedding day.  We also take the time to feature just the bride, in all her beauty!  Especially those eyes...

Carston, unfortunately, was a little bit sick this day, but we were quite impressed with how positive he was for the photos he jumped in, despite not feeling well.  Ahh, perfect smiles.  Looking at these photos below, I can't help but think what adorable kids these two will have!

And, of course, what would a bridal shoot be without shoes and flowers?

Alicia and Craig's Formals

If I had to describe Alicia as a bride in one word it would be: elegant.  She was poised and beautiful, it was really hard to get a bad picture of her!  And Craig looked alright too :)  Actually, I loved the suit and thought he pulled off the skinny tie quite well!  We started at the Utah State Capitol and shooting there was rather interesting this day.  There was some meeting in progress - state senate or something - so we had lots of official looking people as an audience or even showing up in the background of the pictures.

Then we drove to the Timpanogos temple to catch the sunset as the temple lit up.  It was so cold!  But worth every minute.  We got such a gorgeous sky that night!

Even the view in the parking lot was amazing!  Alicia was excited because her colors were pink, grey, and white (or cream.  I admit I don't really remember) but the sky cooperated perfectly for the pinks!

Alicia and Craig's wedding day was Saturday and we had a perfectly beautiful snowy day.  Check back tomorrow for the photos!

McDougal Family

I was so happy to get to shoot the McDougals and their extended family the Eichers.  Since shooting Holli and David's wedding earlier this year, we've become really good friends.  We've even got a regular pinochle game going.  What is pinochle you say?  Only the greatest old-person card game ever! Seriously, Thomas and I are completely addicted, and we were happy when we found another couple to share our nerdiness with.

I'm getting distracted though- back to the photos!

This fall was so awesome!  The colors on the trees just kept sticking around, even after we started to get some snow...

Whipped cream + tiny cookies + hot chocolate on a cold day=  yum.

Snowball fight!

Eichers Family

We shot the Eichers and the McDougals together for some extended family potraits.  You may remember seeing them when I shared the photos from Holli and David's wedding earlier this year.

I love shooting in the capital building... lots of natural light, it's a gorgeous building, and best of all? It's warm in the wintertime.  :D

This family is so expressive!  It's awesome when family portraits include a healthy dose of silliness.

The red glasses made it around to most of the family members.  They add a certain amount of panache to the wearer, don't they?

And what better to finish pictures than with hot chocolate and humungous marshmallows?

Late Fall Wedding: Engagements and a Sneak Peek

Silvina and Josh were married yesterday!  We did their engagement photos a couple weeks ago up Big Cottonwood Canyon before most of the fall colors disappeared, and as yesterday was the day they officially started their new lives together, I figured it was the right time to share them. :)

Josh is a full-time manager for a security sales company based in Utah, and spends 4 months out of the year working basically around the clock managing an office in different parts of the country.  He met Silvina on a company trip down to Cancun, where she was visiting with her family from her native Argentina.  Out of all the places to meet the love of your life, Cancun definitely sounds like one of the most awesome.

It's interesting how Josh doesn't speak any Spanish at all, but they manage to communicate so well.  The best thing about being around them was how easily Josh was able to make Silvina laugh.

Yesterday was a special day- it was 11/11/11, and while Silvina and Josh's wedding at the South Jordan Courthouse was actually at 11am, the funny thing was that ALL of the weddings that day were "at 11."  The judge ordered that the official clock be stopped at 11, so he was able to perform all three of the ceremonies from the day at 11/11/11 at 11.  Pretty cool.

Kirra & Brandon Formals

Kirra and Brandon's engagement session was epic.  I guess it makes sense then that their formals session was even better!

Kirra's blue shoes were so fun- a great way to bring a splash of summer color into things...

Each of these three photos has a pretty distinct difference in how they feel, and I love each of them for that reason.

Kirra and Brandon will be getting married August 10th.  Congratulations you two!!!

Kandis & Greg: Summer Engagements in Salt Lake

More of my couples these days are bringing multiple choices of clothing to engagement shoots, and I couldn't be happier!  When you've got 4 or 5 different shirts in different colors for the bride and groom, as well as a couple of formal outfit choices, it's a snap to get some wonderful combinations between the couple as well as coordinate the type of colors for the setting of the photo.  Kandis and Greg brought an entire trunkful of clothes, and we probably got in 5 or 6 different outfits in the 2 hours or so that we were shooting.

These guys were so wonderful!  They are so genuinely cheerful, nice, and pleasant to be around that Thomas and I immediately began plotting on how we could be friends with them.  Thomas suggested holding their pictures hostage unless they came to dinner... I'm still considering it. :)  They were happy to do anything and everything I needed:  run around like crazy people to the different places we had planned, wade in a FREEZING cold stream, take photos in the middle of state street in downtown SLC, even climb up on the high ledge with no guardrail by the Capitol so that we could get that awesome skyline (at least until the cop came by and told us, yes, we had to climb down).

Three different photos, three different outfits.  And each one looks fabulous!
Kandis definitely knows how to rock the cardigans!  I loved how vibrant the colors were- so summery and happy.

And now we're back to the photo from the sneak peek: I love it I love it I love it!

Maria & Jonny: Formals at Memory Grove & Salt Lake Capitol

Maria and Jonny were married last Friday at Log Haven up Mill Creek Canyon.  It was a gorgeous day and quite the party.  I had a blast, and am now able to share some of their formals session that we did a week before the wedding.  We went to Memory Grove and the Capitol Building in downtown Salt Lake City.

I love love love this first photo. The light is so perfect, and highlights how stunning Maria is.

.

Awesome sky? Check.  Sufficiently dramatic pose? Check.  Oozing self confidence and general fantabulousness?  Check!

Isn't Maria gorgeous?  I loved her dress!  So elegant...

I love me some sweet sweet reflections!  It's like they're standing on mirrored glass...

And when the sun goes down, you get that perfect time known simply as "the blue hour".
